Susah menampik imej menarik dari Seiko Chrono klasik dari tahun 70 an ini (cal 6138 dan 6139). Dimasanya, chrono automatik ini merajai pasaran diluar negeri sana. Dan didalam negeri sini sempat beredar juga. Beberapa teman mantan kolega juga memakai jam ini, kata mereka warisan dari bapak mereka, dan ternyata bapak mereka adalah pensiunan TNI AU.

Sayangnya, susah ditelusuri kebelakang apakah dijaman itu TNI AU memang memakai jam chrono klasik ini sebagai "jam standar" untuk lapis pamen nya (perwira menengah). Tidak ada data tertulis mengenai status Seiko 6139 ini apakah memang resmi dipakai oleh TNI AU atas perintah panglimanya atau hanya sekedar kebetulan saja beberapa perwira satu angkatan banyak yang memakai jenis ini.  Lucunya beberapa kolega junior yg pakai jam jenis ini lungsuran dari bapaknya, saling "menuduh" dan bertanya "Hey Bapak kamu pensiunan TNI AU ya"? Bisa jadi mereka juga sudah saling paham bahwa jam itu pernah beredar dikalangan perwira TNI AU dijamannya.

Cal 6138 dan 6139 mempunyai perbedaan yang mudah dilihat oleh mata telanjang. Cal 6138 mempunyai 2 buah jendela kecil untuk registered chrono nya, sedangkan 6139 mempunyai satu bulatan kecil terisi 30 minutes counter dibawah didekat angka 6.
Seiko 6139 adalah chorono yang pertama kali keluar ditahun 1969 dan selesai beredar tahun 1979, keluar dipasaran dengan beberapa vairasi dial yang unik spt diatas ini (puitih silver) lalu ada gold. Nama julukan diantara user adalah "speed timer", lalu disebut juga sebagai " Seiko Pogue" ( dia adalah Astronot Skylab). Jam Kolonel Pogue yakni Seiko 6139 sudah terjual dilelang seharga $ 6000

Untuk Seiko 6138 yang keluar berikutnya ditahun 1970-1979. Jam ini berbeda dilihat tampilan kosmetik casing dan dials nya seperti sudah disebutkan didepan. Mempunyai dua buah jendela kecil untuk registered chronograph dengan imbuhan 12 jam putaran. Nama pasaran untuk tipe 6138 adalah: Seiko UFO dan lainnya adl Seiko Bullhead. Kedua jenis Seiko dengan nick name unik ini bisa dilihat di google.

William Pogue's Seiko 6139 Watch Flown on Board the Skylab 4 Mission, from his Personal Collection. This watch was worn on the wrist of Mission Pilot William R. Pogue during this eighty-four day mission between November 16, 1973, and February 8, 1974, traveling around the Earth 1214 times for a total of thirty-four million miles. Pogue purchased the 6139-600x Seiko watch on June 13, 1972 for $71 after placing it on layaway three days prior. He used the watch during pre-flight training to time the engine burns. Although he was not officially sanctioned to do so, Pogue wore the watch during his duration on Skylab. To take the watch aboard the spacecraft, Pogue placed it in the spacesuit leg pocket during pre-launch preparations. After launch insertion and getting unsuited from the spacesuit, Pogue put the watch on his left wrist and set it to United States Central Time while the NASA official sanctioned Omega watch was placed on his right wrist. Upon Pogue's return to earth he continued to wear the Seiko watch daily until he retired it in 2003 due to the wear and tear of twenty years.

The watch is accompanied by the original layaway receipt, instruction booklet, spare watch parts, a NASA photo of Pogue wearing the watch aboard Skylab, and a two-page handwritten letter from Pogue explaining the history of the watch. Also included is the May 2007 issue of International Watch magazine that has a feature story about this watch and how it flew into space more than ten years before the NASA-sanctioned Sinn 142 chronograph. A truly historic watch sure to appeal to both space and timepiece collectors.

Col. Pouge said:

"I put the Omega on my right wrist at this time, and Seiko on my left wrist. I did not get NASA approval to carry the Seiko watch on the mission but we weren't given the Omegas until late in our training. I had been using the Seiko for well over six months and found it very handy for timing engine burns in the simulator, using the bezel as reported earlier. Hence, I did not make any attempt to get official permission or approval to carry the Seiko on the mission."
